THE FACTUAL HISTORY: 1987 TO TODAY
1927 formed in Sydney in 1987 as a pop rock band.
The Nine Network's 'Hey Hey It's Saturday' series, televised Melbourne based Erik Weideman performing a cover version of The Police's hit single, ‘Roxanne’, during a segment called ‘Red Faces’.
Philip Campbell, ex drummer for Electric Panda’s, was at home in Sydney watching television when he saw Erik Weideman perform on ‘Red Faces’.Impressed with Weideman’s vocals it was Campbell who contacted Garry Frost (ex Moving Pictures member) suggesting Erik could be the vocalist for a project the two had been thinking about.
Following up Philip’s suggestion, Garry contacted the Nine Network in an attempt to find Erik Weideman and offer him the role of lead vocals, guitar and keyboards … in a yet to be formed band … with yet to write songs.
Erik Weideman accepted and moved to Sydney.
Bill Frost was added to the lineup on bass guitar.
